a day at the lake by BiERLOS a.k.a. photörhead.ch on Flickr.

Interesting comparison: 1957 Chevy Bel Air convertible, and a Mercedes 220S coupe from the same era.
The Chevy cost roughly $2700 new, the Benz about $7500.
Top engine on the Chevy was a fuel injected 283 cu. in. ohv V-8 (which added considerably to the sticker price).
Top engine on the Benz was a fuel injected, 2.2L sohc straight-6.
The Benz had modern, unit-body construction, yet had an old-fashioned upright grille.
The Chevy had old-fashioned body-on-frame construction, yet had modern (for the day) styling.
The Benz had independent rear suspension, the Chevy did not.
The Chevy was bigger and had a real back seat.
The Benz had real chunks of wood and full leather interior.
The Chevy could outrun the Benz with 2 spark plugs removed.
The Benz could out corner the Chevy on 3 tires.
Today, a fuelie ‘57 Chevy is worth more than the Benz.
